Flexible AMOLED’s the future?

November 7, 2010 1 comment

Several days ago, a tech blog over in Asia and BGR reported that Samsung was showing off a 4.5 inch flexible AMOLED. My guess is that would would use this in cellphones but that could mean that the size of phones could be shrinking. Details are short but this could improve current AMOLED production and make them more available for phones coming into the market. With a 800×480 resolution, it  would fit perfectly with most of the phone OS’s out in the market currently like Android, Windows Phone 7, BlackBerry 6, or something new that hasn’t been released yet. Low power consumption and great refresh rate are two big keys with this display. Hopefully we will see more of type of technology as it becomes more common. What’s your thoughts on this?

Dell Taking Shot At RIM?

November 5, 2010 Leave a comment

In the Wall Street Journal today, computer maker and now handset maker Dell is said to be dropping their BlackBerry smartphones in favor of their own line of phones. According to the CFO Brian Gladden, it could save them 25% on mobile communications cost since they won’t have a need for the BlackBerry Enterprise Servers. They are also talking about offering this service their corporate clients as well to promote cost savings and to push their own devices loaded with Microsoft‘s Windows Phone 7 and Google’s Android OS sometime soon. So should RIM be worried about this? Or is this a publicity stunt on Dell’s part as RIM is calling it? How do you guys feel about this? Should Dell be taking shots like this?

OtterBox Starts New Foundation Called OtterCares

November 5, 2010 Leave a comment

We got this from OtterBox today! It is an awesome story of how one company is giving back to its local community. It is a great idea that they have going here and hopefully we will see more companies doing this. $200 may not seem like a lot but when it all adds up, you can make a really good impact! Keep up the good work over there OtterBox!

Witness the Ripple Effect; OtterBox Launches OtterCares Foundation

Fort Collins, COLO. — A single stone dropped into still water creates a large ripple effect that spreads far beyond the initial drop. Attempting to create a similar effect in the Northern Colorado community, employees of OtterBox®, a smartphone case manufacturing company, each acted as symbolic stones yesterday as they visited more than 45 local non-profit organizations, hand delivering donations to celebrate the official launch of the OtterCares Foundation.

When Nancy Richardson, OtterCares Founder and President, first dreamed of starting a charitable foundation she wanted to create something that had a lasting positive impact on both the surrounding community and OtterBox employees. With this “ripple effect” launch project titled the “Get It, Grow It, Give It Challenge,” the foundation is off to a great start.

The “G3 Challenge” was simple enough. First, each employee received a $200 grant certificate to bestow upon the charity of their choice. Employees were challenged to grow this gift in some way such as raising additional funds, matching the donation with a personal contribution, collecting needed items or even volunteering their time to the organization.

A total of 73 local and national organizations will be receiving donations as part of this initiative and approximately $72,000 was donated jointly by the OtterCares Foundation and employees of OtterBox as of November 4, 2010. Employee contributions are still being tallied.

“OtterCares is about encouraging OtterBox employees to join together, get involved in the community in which we live and work in and give back,” Richardson said. “That’s why this employee giving project was such an integral part of the launch. It gave each employee a chance to donate to an organization that means something to them personally.”

One organization that received support from a group of 26 employees through the “G3 Challenge” is the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Colorado. Pooling their donations and raising additional funds, these OtterBox employees are helping to sponsor the wish of a local youth cancer patient who aspires to become a film maker. This donation will go far beyond the “G3 Challenge” as employees provide the needed equipment, resources and support to make this wish come true.

“When you drop a stone into water the ripple lasts long after the first splash,” Richardson said. “That’s what we’re trying to achieve with OtterCares – a profound and lasting impact on the community as well as OtterBox employees.”
