Here’s a pretty cool app for iOS devices called Cinch. It’s a great app for sharing audio, text and photo updates via your iPhone or iPod Touch. You can easily broadcast your information via Twitter, Facebook, CinchCast.com and more! Pretty cool, eh? Current version is 1.6. Let’s take a look at Cinch.

You can either sign up at CinchCast.com or authorize your Facebook and/or Twitter account to post via the app. Just hit the “Record” button as shown above (you’ll have about 3 seconds before recording) and speak your peace. Once completed you’ll have the option to send to CinchCast.com, Facebook or to Twitter. You even have the option to post to your own personal blog if you have one.

You can see above that you can add pics to your recordings, tag your current location and announce what you are saying before sharing. Checking the CinchCast.com website you can find various people to follow and those will be synced to your app as well. I gave the app a good workout and I’m really pleased with it.
You can read much more at the CinchCast site here.
What’s New in Version 1.6
● Simplified recording, adding pictures and text, and publishing.
● iOS 4 support.
● Multitasking support (fast app switching and background completion of recording and publishing).
● Retina display support.
You can’t pass this up since it’s FREE!!! Doesn’t get any cheaper than that, eh? Here’s the iTunes App Store link.
Give it a shot…you’ll be glad you did. Hit us up with a comment if you give this app a go.

Google Maps for Andriod has been bumped to version 4.7 which now includes Google’s Hotspot recommendation system. Hotspot allows you to discover new places based on findings and opinions from yourself and your friends. Below is how Hotspot will integrate into your Android device:
Rate places on the go — Now you can write and publish ratings and reviews from your mobile phone. We make it quick and easy with a new rating widget designed for rating places on the go. Install it from your homescreen by going to Menu > Add > Widgets > Rate Places. You can also post ratings and reviews directly from any Place page. So, when you polish off the crispiest carnitas taco you’ve ever eaten, you can pull out your Android phone to celebrate the event and give that taqueria the public love it deserves.
Get Google Maps 4.7 for Android 1.6 and above everywhere Maps is already available. Just search for Google Maps in Android Market (or tap here from your phone).
By the way, if you’re an iPhone user, good news: we’ll soon have a Places app that allows you to rate and get place recommendations as well. Alternatively, you can rate and get place recommendations from your phone browser (iPhone and Android) in the US. Just visit the Places tab at google.com as we roll out over the next day.

So, fire up your Android device and update Google Maps. Let us know how the new Hotspot recommendation is working out for you Android owners.

The crew at Emacberry has released version 2.2 of FileScout for the masses. Both the free and premium versions of the app were updated. A new screenshot functionality is also integrated in both versions. Gotta like that! Playlist enhancements were also welcomed and provided in this release as well. Here’s the scoop on the new features:
What’s New
ScreenScout – Use FileScout to capture your BlackBerry Device display from anywhere.
This new FileScout version will come with a integrated fully configurable screenshot application. FileScoutLite user can also make use of this new feature (the Lite Version will add some overlay to the screenshot). Of course you need to grant FileScout the permission (in the BlackBerry device application permission configuration) to capture the screen of the device.
The capture operation can be accessed in two ways (if not disabled in the options)
Via the Global Menu entry ‘ScreenShot with FileScout’
In any application you simply can select the ‘ScreenShot with FileScout’ menu item to capture the current screen (of course without the menu visible).
Unfortunately the global menu is not always accessible (or does not include the system wide menu items) in this case the you should use the ‘ScreenScout’ background application to capture the screen.
Via the ScreenScout background application (recommended)
Simply open the TaskSwitcher (hold ALT any press ESC or on newer OS: hold down the BB-Menu-Button) and select the ‘ScreenScout – Capture with FileScout’ application. By simply selecting the background application FileScout will capture the current screen (incl. all popup dialogs) and will save it as image into the specified screenshot directory.
Configuration ‘FileScout Image & ScreenShot Options’ (Lite Version: ‘ScreenShot Options’):
‘ScreenShot Directory’
Specify the destination directory for all the screenshots you are going to create (a directory need to be defined in order to use the new functionality).
‘Autoname ScreenShots’
When this option is enabled the screenshots will get the default file name “ScreenCapture” (already existing screenshots will not be overwritten instead the new screenshot will be autorenamed. If this checkbox is deactivated you will be prompted each time to enter the filename for the new screenshot.
‘Add Timestamp to file name’ (not available in Lite Version)
The screenshot file name will automatically get a timestamp information in the format ‘YYYYMMDD-HHMM’ at the end.
‘Open ScreenShot Directory after operation’
After taking a screenshoot FileScout will be opened so that you can instantly do what ever is required with the new created screenshot image.
‘Add Global ScreenShot Menu’
If you don’t like to have the Global ‘ScreenShot with FileScout’ MenuItem you can simply deactivate it with this checkbox (a reboot/battery pull required to take effect).
”Launch ScreenShot Background Application on system start’
Same applies to the additional ScreenScout Application that will be automatically launched in the background at system start. If you don’t like that the background app will be launched uncheck this checkbox (a reboot/battery pull required to take effect).
You can also select between PNG or JPEG (including the compression level) as screenshot file format.
Creation of PlayLists more user friendly – show warning when no Playlist directory is configured – creating recursive Playlists can be canceled
Additional Key-ShortCut [SHIFT]+[L]: PlayList Recursive
The TextEditor allow you to use a own/different FontFamily (can be configured in the Options)
eMail Archive & Browse with FileScout MenuItems will now check if another instance of FileScout is already running in the background and if this is the case this background instance will be used.
What’s Fixed
False warning ‘Playlist Directory does not exist any longer’ when actually no files have been selected is fixed.
OS6 seams to be not able to include Video files in a playlist – so on OS6 Videos will be excluded

Path, a photo sharing app on the iTunes App Store, has made its way to the masses. What is Path you may ask? Very good question and below is the answer.
Path is the personal network. A place to be yourself and share life with close friends and family. The personal network doesn’t replace your existing social networks – it augments them.
Path allows you to capture your life’s most personal moments and share them with the 50 close friends and family in your life who matter most.
Because your personal network is limited to your 50 closest friends and family, you can always trust that you can post any moment, no matter how personal. Path is a place where you can be yourself.

The app allows you to snap a pic with your iPhone or iPod Touch 4th Generation and add tags around the pic to include people, places and whatever you fancy. You can share the pics with up to 50 people in your network. The people at Path feel 50 is an adequate figure for the closest group of friends you may have.
Once you capture a pic with Path you can see in real-time which of your friends in your network sees the pic at that same moment. You can read much more about Path at the company blog here. I find it interesting that friends can’t even comment on the pic you submit to your Path, but I hope that issue is resolved in future releases.
You can grab Path in the iTunes App Store here. You can also sign-up on the Path website here if you do not have an iPhone or iPod Touch 4th Gen.

Before switching to my iPhone 4 a couple months ago, I was a long time BlackBerry user. I briefly switched to Android, but returned to BlackBerry in a matter of months. Why? I missed BBMing. Now that many people are switching to Android and iPhone from BlackBerry there are a number of cross platform applications that try to imitate that beautiful BBM experience. Today we will be looking at the two most used: PingChat! and Kik Messenger. They are both available on BlackBerry, iOS and Android. Note: This is from an iOS point of view. Feel free to shoot off in the comments on how these apps work for your platform.

Just purchased yourself a spanking new Samsung Galaxy Tab? Wanna be able to root and unroot the device with just a few clicks? Got some good news for ya! You can easily root and unroot (if you so decide) your Galaxy Tab + other devices with the Z4Root root method. If you’re not hacking…you’re not living. Lol! The process to root and unroot is easy as 1-2-3. Check below:
So you have your new shiny Galaxy Tab, and you want to root it. I like the way you think. The good news is that the days of SDK’s, cryptic shell commands, and crazy Windows USB drivers are over. An app from the Market (z4root — links after the break) will root your Tab, as well as other Galaxy S phones and other NAND unlocked devices with just a button press.
Download and install Z4Root from the Market
Enable USB debugging (menu>settings>applications>development)
Run the app, and press the “root” button
Your Tab will restart, and you’re rooted. Unrooting is just as easy, just run z4root and “unroot.” Of course a lot of the goodies available for other devices just haven’t been made for the Tab just yet, but they’re coming. Hit the jump for download links and a list of other phones this will work on. (XDA Developers via Pocketables)
Other devices that z4root will root:
Samsung Galaxy S (All variants)
Backflip
Sony X10
Xperia Mini
Droid 2
Galaxy Tab
Galaxy I5700
Galaxy 3 I5800
Droid X
Samsung Acclaim
Cricket Huawei Ascend
Motorola Cliq
Huawei 8120
Hero
Optimus T
Droid 1 (z4root 1.2.1)

The Boxcar push notification app for iOS devices is receiving a major upgrade and should be available in the iTunes App Store any time now. I have personally had fiascos with various iOS apps with push notifications overriding each other and it all just ended up being a huge hassle. Version 4.0 of Boxcar should alleviate that. Check below for the latest:
They’re now launching version 4.0 of the app, and it’s by far the best yet. The entire app has been overhauled from the ground up. The result is a killer management system for Push Notifications. Apple needs to buy this company.
While previous versions of the app gave you a time-ordered stream of your notifications, it was somewhat daunting to look at. And you couldn’t do much from in the app itself. The new design makes everything much easier to manage and more visually appealing. For example, notifications from Twitter now show up complete with the user’s profile picture. And you can retweet or reply to any of those message right from within Boxcar.
The app itself has taken a design cue from the excellent Facebook iPhone app and features a home screen with nice looking big buttons for each service you have activated. There is also now Retina Display support if you have the iPhone 4. All of this works on the iPod touch and iPad as well.
And 4.0 brings Support for a host of new services. Google Buzz, Google Voice, Github, App Recommendations, and a few others are all now included and can be installed with a few easy steps. These App Recommendations are done by Boxcar themselves.
Boxcar is now a team of 5 people based in New York City. To date, they’ve delivered over 500 million notifications to iPhones, iPod touches, and iPads.
Boxcar is a free download in the App Store (though it’s $4.99 if you wish to disable in-app advertising). You can find it here. Version 4.0 should be live shortly.

I’m heading to the App Store to grab it as soon as it comes down the pipe. Looking forward to seeing the improvements and seeing if it delivers the goods on my iPod Touch 4th Generation. Give us a shout in the comments if you’re going to get your Boxcar on.

Well, isn’t this something! Looks like Android owners under all carriers and all Android devices can now download Bing for free in the Android Market for their searching needs. I doubt if Bing will be welcomed with open arms as Google brought us the Android operating system in the first place along with Google Search. Here’s more info:
For those of you looking longingly at your friends on Verizon as they Bing their way through the day, take note. If you find yourself constantly asking “How can I get that wonderful Bing Decision Engine on my phone?”, pay heed: Bing (read our full review) is now available on every phone, every carrier, for every decision.
That’s right, for the low, low price of free in the Android Market, you can forgo Google, forsake the search engine that brought you this fair Android operating system, and Bing your way through life. It’s OK. We won’t tell. [Bing]

Anyone going to give up Google Search for Bing? Can’t see it happening but to each their own, right? Give us a shout in the comments with your reaction and plans.
