Google Adds iPhone And Android App Search To Mobile Interface

October 27, 2010 1 comment

Looks like Google has updated their mobile interface to include app searches for both iPhone and Android. Pretty nifty, eh? This will be great in allowing users to take a detour around the somewhat slow searching times encountered in the App Store and Android Market.

Give it a go and let us know how you like it. Have a great Wednesday from everyone here at The Sauce Report.

Twitter Clients For Blackberry – Finally Some Quality Options

August 31, 2010 Leave a comment

Hey folks…just thought I’d throw out the fact that I’m pretty darn happy with the choices of Twitter clients for Blackberry owners out there. SocialScope just dropped version .129 in our laps (unless you’ve not received an invite) with features full Facebook integration. UberTwiter is another great, full-featured Twitter app for Blackberry which I use and the developers are super-quick to address problems and push updates out to the masses. The native Twitter for Blackberry (T4BB) is also a great choice. Even Seesmic for Blackberry has stepped up their game to push out a new update to address bug fixes and it does refresh faster and provide a more pleasant user interface. Tweetissimo for Blackberry from The Blackberry Zone and BritishTurbo (Twitter username) goes without saying. Push notifications have been a godsend for me. It’s great to see mentions and direct messages pushed directly to your Blackberry device for quick retrieval and response.

I know a lot of you are eagerly awaiting the upcoming Blackberry Twitter client, Blaq. I have a serious jonesin’ going on for this product. I guess patience is a virtue, eh? You can obtain an overview of this full-featured app here.

So, which of these (or any other) is your “go-to” Twitter client for your Blackberry? Do you run more than 1 of the apps at one time on your Blackberry? I know I do! Give us a shoutout in the comments on which of these you use, your fav or favs and your views on the recent improvements and/or introductions of these apps.

Variety is the spice of life, right?

Thanks

TweetDeck for Android; the first day

August 13, 2010 Leave a comment

Well folks, I had promised myself I’d wait to write-up a full review, but I can’t help it. I’ve been waiting for TweetDeck to release an Android version for too bloody long, and oh, about eighteen hours later I can say I’m pleased with this beta. Now, before I go any further,  please, do remember, this IS a beta, so lets keep that in mind as you provide your own thoughts and feedback.

First of course is setup. I’m not sure how nicely it plays if you’re using it to initially set up a TweetDeck account, I’ve been using it on my other devices for ages. I will say it imported smoothly, with no noticeable glitches or interruption. I never added foursquare or Google Buzz to my account before, so I imported them right away to see how well that played. I was impressed to see foursquare set up instantly with no troubles at all. Unfortunately I cannot say the same for Buzz. Setting it up took me to the authorization page, and Google’s splash pop up. This is where I encountered a problem, as I could not get the pop up to close after repeated attempts. After five attempts on three occasions I finally just added Buzz using a computer and then went back to my phone.

Instantly I was caught off guard, both by easy TweetDeck was on the eyes, and how intuitive the ui was. I will admit, I’m normally one of those people who needs to tweak each and every setting in an app before being happy with it, but TweetDeck was an exception. This is undoubtably for the best considering that the current beta offers no user customizable settings at all.  The theme is going to be dark for some people’s tastes I’m sure anyone that has used either their desktop or iDevice apps will be perfectly comfortable with it. The font is bright and large enough to be easily readable, but isn’t grating, a fact that I was quite grateful for when I opened the app en route to the coffee maker this morning. I will say that the yellow dots for column notifications seem to be a bit small for me but it is something that I’ve noticed myself getting used to. Speaking of the columns the transition between them is smooth, although it seems almost a bit to easy as I often find myself starting to switch while trying to scroll through my timeline. (And yes there are two new ones which I’ll get into more later) I also find myself wishing you were able to add columns, though this functionality may be coming down the road. Also, a nice touch is the different background colors for various services, although I’m hoping that in future releases they’ll extend this to setting different background colors for different twitter accounts.

The last thing that I feel truly needs to be addressed is the two new columns, both of which are an interesting idea in their own right. The first would be the “Home” column which is an idea that I’ve heard some TweetDeck users clamor for in the past. In short its simply all of your feeds tied together in one column. I’m still not sure how I feel about it to be honest, I can see a lot of potential in the idea, but I know some people could find themselves overwhelmed by the sea of information.  The other column is simply entitled “Me”. This displays anything that directly references you (e.g. Twitter mentions), and seems like a fairly simple way to keep tabs on who is tossing your name around.

Overall, I love TweetDeck on my Evo and think it may be the single app social networking hub I’ve been hoping it would be. It certainly isn’t perfect yet, but for a first release in an open beta, it’s quite nice start. I’ll be sure to post an update after I’ve played around with it a bit more and at that time I’ll do some side by side comparison with some other apps to see how they all stack up.

Hootsuite For iPhone Adds New Features

If you are an iPhone user and use Hootsuite, you’ll be happy to hear that they’ve added a bunch of new features to their newest update (v1.1.3). Here’s what the folks over at Hootsuite have to say about their latest update:

This update adds full localization in four languages to go along with the recently-released translation tools. Both are designed to help marketers, socializers, and internationalists understand the vibe about their brand, industry, and interests from all over the globe. Additionally, the release includes a kit full of new tools to help you stay on top of multiple social streams — and share the best parts with remarkable efficiency.

You now have the option to access Hootsuite in four different languages. No more fumbling with hard to understand English:

  • Japanese
  • German
  • Spanish
  • Portuguese

This new feature carrys over to options/settings/and menu items. Everything you see will be in your native language (if listed above).

If your native language is not listed above, you can request Hootsuite add your language through their feedback site.

Also, Hootsuite now lets you translate to and from 50+ different languages, so I’m sure that the above four languages will be expanded VERY soon.

They’ve also added a few other tools to help you stay organized while accessing Hootsuite:

  • Facebook Comments – Comment on anything in your News Feed along with Facebook Pages and Profiles
  • Conversation Context – See the context of conversations with threaded messages arranged chronologically
  • Keep your Place – HootSuite kindly remembers your position and places you right back in the stream
  • Save as a Draft – Finish your update later without starting from scratch by saving your work
  • Read it Later – Save links to the Instapaper service for future reading when you have the time
  • Email that Tweet – Forward a micro-update by email to share news with non-Twitterized bosses or pals

So, as you can see, the folks at Hootsuite are trying hard to get the title of the hardest working app in Twitter-ville. Again, if you ever have any suggestions, they welcome feedback!

You can pick up the newest version of Hootsuite in the iTunes App Store in two versions:

Do you use this app? Have you upgraded yet? If so, be sure to let us know what you think!

TweetDeck: Coming Soon To An Android Device Near You!

May 26, 2010 2 comments

Yes, you’re reading that right. This is something that I personally have been waiting for now for quite some time, as I’m sure many of our readers are as well. The folks over at Android Police managed to corner not only an engineer, but the CEO of TweetDeck about some of their future plans, and they unveiled the app for them to check out. Nothing was caught on video, but you can see a picture of the app running on a device at the bottom of this post.

It appears that this app will be a fully functional version of the popular desktop version, incorporating such features as:

* Twitter (multi-accounts)
* Facebook
* LinkedIn
* Foursquare
* MySpace
* Google Buzz

It will also boast the column look and feel that you are used to, only having to swipe to get from one column to the next.

From what I understand, we should see this in just a few weeks, and as soon as an official announcement is made, I’ll be sure to post about it!

Who else is excited for this app?
