I was lucky enough to put the Motorola DROID 2 through it’s paces, thanks to the good folks over at Verizon Wireless. Thanks again Verizon Wireless for allowing me to review this product.
First off, I want to say that I was pretty excited to give this one a try, as I own a Motorola DROID (1) and also the HTC Droid Incredible, so I am familiar with Android devices, and was looking forward to comparing the D1 to the D2. Right out of the gate it looks a little bit different. The coloring of the device is a a bit silver on the front, and blue on the back. So it’s different than the black of D1.
KEYBOARD
The DROID 2 packs two keyboards, just like the DROID 1 did, a touch screen keyboard and also a slide out physical keyboard. They’ve definitely improved on the keyboard, making the keys a bit more raised and squishy (technical term), and also they got rid of that horrible D-Pad and replaced it with simple arrow buttons. Still not 100% impressed with the physical keyboard, the spacing is a bit strange, I prefer the touch keyboard and in fact, can type on it much easier.
SCREEN
The screen hasn’t been changed, it’s still packing a 3.7 inch screen and it’s as vibrant as ever. I prefer the Motorola screen to the HTC screen, the colors are much more rich and brighter. The screen seemed to have been as zippy as the DROID X when compared side by side. There wasn’t MUCH lag, but there was a bit of lag. To be expected, it’s a beast of a device. Takes some time to move that bad boy around!
CAMERA
The camera on this device is as to be expected. It takes great photos, definitely sharper than that of a BlackBerry device, so there are no real surprises here.
Here are some specs on this device to give you an idea of what to expect:
- OS: Android 2.2 (Froyo)
- 5 megapixel camera with digital zoom, autofocus and dual LED flash
- WiFi, GPS
- 3G Mobile Hotspot
- Google Maps
- Adobe Flash 10.1
- QuickOffice
- Up to 8GB onboard memory, 8GB microSD pre-installed, expandable to 32GB
- 1GHz Processor
So as you can see, there are a few upgrades from the DROID 1, but for the most part, Motorola took what needed fixin’ on the DROID 1 and put it out as the DROID 2.
All and all its a great device, I do prefer it to the DROID 1, I think they made the right changes/fixes from DROID 1, and I’d recommend it to anyone. Pick one up right now at your local Verizon Wireless store or online at Verizon Wireless.
Thanks again to Verizon Wireless for allowing us to test-drive this great device, and look for more reviews of VZW devices in the future!
