October 5, 2010 Leave a comment

Todays TSR Deal Of The Day is an app called Compass and you can pick it up in the mobihand store for just $2.49, that’s 50% off the regular price of $4.99! Today is the day to pick this app up, so head on over and get your copy!

This wonderful fully-featured compass is the next step up from our popular Compass Lite. Compass uses the built-in GPS in the device to show your line of travel, speed, latitude and longitude and where North is in relation to your heading on a variety of stunning backgrounds. To establish a line of travel, you MUST BE MOVING to use it! .

Compass can now store locations called WayPoints and integrates those WayPoints with Google Maps and BlackBerry Maps!

Be sure to check our website for more information, including FAQ and disclaimer information at blueinc.ca

Here are some of the features of this app:

Features:

  • Stunning new backgrounds (in both portrait and landscape orientations on the Storm); some are even animated!
  • The ability to change the format of the Heading, the lat/long and the speed: You can choose formats like Degrees, Minutes, Seconds or miles/hour
  • The ability to display and/or reset the maximum speed
  • New header graphics that show time, date, battery strength, # of satellites/GPS strength
  • Store WayPoint locations with a title and description
  • Show WayPoints or your current location in Google Maps or BlackBerry Maps
  • Show a route to a chosen WayPoint in Google Maps or BlackBerry Maps
  • Multilingual: supports English, German, Italian, French and Spanish
  • The red arrow in the compass rose always points to True North and updates when your location changes
  • Requires access to the internal GPS on device and the ability to set device permissions; Google Maps and/or BlackBerry Maps to enjoy all features (data charges *may* apply depending on your plan with your carrier)
  • This is not an iPhone compass! It is GPS-based and you NEED TO BE MOVING to use it! It takes REPEATED READINGS from the GPS data so you must move your location (not far: 5 – 10 meters or so) to cause the compass rose to rotate.

Make sure you check to see that your device is compatible with Compass!

Blackberry Theme Spotlight: Curtain Call By JSmurfy For BBThemesUnltd

August 19, 2010 1 comment

Hey folks! I wanted to share a great Blackberry theme from my friend JSmurfy with BBThemesUnltd. The theme is called Curtain Call and it’s rock solid! I’ve had this theme running on my Blackberry 9650 with no lag whatsoever. So, what’s so great about this particular theme? Let’s get to the goodies!

Features:

* New Icons
* New Battery and Signal
* New Fully Skinned Look and feel.
* 12 Main Screen Icons
* With Sound Profiles
* Transition to and from Main and app screen

For Curtain Call 480×360
BlackBerry: 8900 (Curve), 8910 (Curve), 8930 (Curve), 9630 (Tour), 9650 (Bold), 9700 (Bold)

Hot keys: Alt x – Alt O
X — shows icons on homescreen
O — hides everything

Hidden today is NOT included as JSmurfy advised me it would make the homescreen too “sloppy”. Lol!

You can easily see that the icons are crisp, clean and professional to say the least. It’s very nice to have over 10 icons on your homescreen for all of your important applications and then being able to hide them with a flick of the switch to show off your favorite wallpaper. JSmurfy never fails to amaze me with his quality Blackberry theme designing skills.

You can pickup the theme from Mobihand here for the low retail price of $4.00.

Give it a shot and let us know how you like it. Thanks again to JSmurfy for allowing me to showcase this stellar theme.

Thanks

Tony

SpeedoMeter for BlackBerry

Skylab Mobilesystems let me know about their new app for BlackBerry: SpeedoMeter! Let’s see what this app is all about, shall we?

Here’s what the developer has to say about SpeedoMeter:

The SpeedoMeter shows the current GPS speed in large digits on the BlackBerry® screen.
Example of Usage:
A speedometer like this can be very useful on boats or basically any fast moving object where you want to see your current speed in real time.
Features:
- Hooks up to internal & external Bluetooth® GPS receivers.
- Shows current speed provided by GPS receiver.
- Large digits for easy reading when you’re on the move.
- Supports speed units: m/s (meters per second), km/h (kilometers per hour), mi/h (miles per hour), knots (identical with nautical miles per hour).
- GPS can be turned on/off manually.
Usage Instructions:
1) Install the application on your device.
2) Click the SpeedoMeter icon to start the application.
3) Move away from tall buildings, outside to an open area to have the best possible GPS satellite coverage.
4) Click “Start GPS”. “GPS Searching…” will appear in the program title to indicate GPS is turned on. If you never used your GPS receiver before or it is a long time ago since you used it, it might take up to 30 minutes to obtain the first GPS position fix.
5) Wait until “GPS Receiving…” appears in the title. This means your device has obtained a GPS position fix.
6) Select the speed unit you prefer at the bottom toolbar and enjoy.
7) Do something good to yourself.
Requirements:
BlackBerry® Smartphone with internal or external Bluetooth® GPS receiver. If you are unsure, please check with your provider whether GPS is supported on your device.
Note:
It does not make much sense to use SpeedoMeter when walking. Especially not in the city where tall buildings might block or reflect GPS satellite signals. The speed reading might jump up and down or might even be too low for showing anything when you are walking. GPS works best outside in an open area with a clear view to the sky.
Future:
The current version only shows the speed in digits. A graphical speedometer will be available in the next version (free update).

Here’s a peek at what the app looks like:

You can pick up this app in BlackBerry App World for $2.99 or via MobiHand for $2.99! Be sure to pick this up today and let us know what you think!

Version: 1.0
Release: 26.05.2010
File Size: 42 KB
Support : sup port @sky lab- mobi lesy stem s.co m

FindMeHere for BlackBerry

This is an app that I’ve been anxious to review for quite a few weeks, and I have finally had the chance to really check it out and I’m happy to say I can now review it!

FindMeHere is an app that uses your GPS to find your location, which you can then send to a friend so they can easily find you. That’s it in a nutshell, now let’s jump into it a little further!

First of all, you must have a device that has an OS of 4.5+ and has GPS capabilities. Once you’ve got that checked off your list, you’re well on your way!

When you first pull up the app, you immediately notice that it’s very straightforward. No long settings menu to make you scratch your head. You will have no problem navigating through this app, the developers did a great job at making it completely user-friendly:

As you can see from the above photo, FindMe is highlighted. That’s the button you want to use to get the GPS to find you. Click that and give it a minute to do its thing!

It will return with a bit.ly link of your coordinates, as you can also see from the above photo. Once you’ve got that, you’re on your way!

From there, you want to COPY your location so you can send it out to your peeps:

Now you’re ready to send it to whoever you want to. You can add this link to any text box… SMS, email, BBM, Twitter, whatever you want! Your possibilities are endless!

Send it off to whoever you want to and they simply have to click on the link you send them, and here’s what happens on their end:

They can then simply navigate to you and meet up with you wherever you are!

The app has recently been updated to v0.69 and here’s what’s new in this version:

*New send button allows for Email, SMS, and Twitter integration
*Twitter option takes user to mobile Twitter site with location information auto populated
*Email option autofills email with location information
*SMS option will create an sms, but not autofill location information (issue with 5.0 API’s)
*Bit.ly now shortens your location link automatically

**IMPORTANT: Do not copy the link before Bit.ly has shortened the link and you are presented with it. The full Google Maps link will not work properly.

In my opinion, this app is super useful and well made. Like I said before, the developers have done their best to make this app very easy to use and also something that is QUICK so that you don’t have to fumble for 5+ minutes just to get your location to someone. Bing bang boom, you’re done!

Be sure to pick this app up, it’s available right now in mobihand for $0.99! Yes, 99 cents! It’s on sale until May 31st, and after that, will return to it’s regular price of $1.99, which in my opinion is a great price for this app.

Be sure to let us know what you think of the app once you try it out! It gets two thumbs way up from me!
