iOS App Spotlight: Try This App – It’s A “Cinch”

November 16, 2010 Leave a comment

Here’s a pretty cool app for iOS devices called Cinch. It’s a great app for sharing audio, text and photo updates via your iPhone or iPod Touch. You can easily broadcast your information via Twitter, Facebook, CinchCast.com and more! Pretty cool, eh? Current version is 1.6. Let’s take a look at Cinch.

You can either sign up at CinchCast.com or authorize your Facebook and/or Twitter account to post via the app. Just hit the “Record” button as shown above (you’ll have about 3 seconds before recording) and speak your peace. Once completed you’ll have the option to send to CinchCast.com, Facebook or to Twitter. You even have the option to post to your own personal blog if you have one.

You can see above that you can add pics to your recordings, tag your current location and announce what you are saying before sharing. Checking the CinchCast.com website you can find various people to follow and those will be synced to your app as well. I gave the app a good workout and I’m really pleased with it.

You can read much more at the CinchCast site here.

What’s New in Version 1.6
● Simplified recording, adding pictures and text, and publishing.
● iOS 4 support.
● Multitasking support (fast app switching and background completion of recording and publishing).
● Retina display support.

You can’t pass this up since it’s FREE!!! Doesn’t get any cheaper than that, eh? Here’s the iTunes App Store link.

Give it a shot…you’ll be glad you did. Hit us up with a comment if you give this app a go.

UberTwitter For iPhone Launches

November 15, 2010 Leave a comment

Whoa, wait…..how did this one sneak by without fanfare? That’s right, the beloved Twitter app for BlackBerry devices, UberTwitter, is now available for iPhone users! Just released on November 11th, you can pick up this great app in the Apple App Store for just…oh wait…. it’s FREE! That’s right, this one is free. So head on over there RIGHT NOW and pick it up!

In addition to traditional Twitter client features – such as composing and sending tweets, retweeting, direct messaging and embedded link shortening – ŰberTwitter for iPhone offers an important new feature called ŰberView that make reading tweets faster and easier. Either by tapping the tweet in portrait mode or turning the phone to landscape mode, users will be able to view and use content from any embedded link (e.g., webpage, photo or video) instantaneously without leaving the app or opening a new page within an app.

ŰberTwitter will continue to encourage its users to share their suggestions for new features as it did with its original Blackberry offering. Within the app, there is a button where users can submit their ideas, and the feedback will be used to prioritize development efforts.

Thanks to our very own TSR writer, Shanice for the heads up on this. Anyone pick UT up for the iPhone yet? If so, what do you think? Does it hold a candle to the original BlackBerry version, or does it have some shortcomings?

I’m going to give this a test run myself and see what it’s all about!

Twitter For Android Gets Updated

November 4, 2010 1 comment

This news broke yesterday, but if you missed it and you have an Android device, head on over to the Market to pick up the newly updated official Twitter app, I think you’ll be happy with what you see in the new version.

They’ve certainly given it a great update, making it look and feel more like the official iPhone Twitter app, allowing you to refresh your timeline simply by pulling down on the screen with your finger. Try it out, it’s pretty cool!

Another update seen is the speed, yes….they’ve amped it up a bit. You SHOULD notice your timeline refreshing much quicker, getting you to your new tweets with out much lag time!

They’ve also introduced “Swipe to Reveal” which allows users to simply swipe across a Tweet to get full access to a menu that will appear, giving you the option to “reply,” “re-tweet,” “add favorite,” “view profile,” and “share” – this option is available from the main timeline screen. You still get the same menu if you click on a tweet and go into it. They’re just saving you a step by offering it as a swipe option.

All of this for the low low price of $0.00!! Yes, that’s right, this Twitter app is FREE! Head on over to the market now to download your copy! Let us know what you think of the changes in the comments below.

Will TweetDeck Have To Change Their Name?

October 31, 2010 Leave a comment

Looks like the folks over at Twitter have updated their guidelines for app developers, and one of the guidelines in the DON’T category might make TweetDeck have to change their name. Here’s what I’m talking about:

Use Tweet in the name of your application if used with any other platform.

That’s taken from the Twitter website directly (see THIS link) and as TweetDeck allows you to post not only to Twitter, but Facebook, Buzz, and Foursquare, then they fall directly into the DON’T category.

So…..look for TweetDeck to make changes, and I’m sure the name change would come before them closing down their app to only allowing you to post to Twitter.

UberTwitter Version 0.993 Release 2 Now Available On Blackberry

October 8, 2010 Leave a comment

All of you Ubertwitter fans out there who are running this Twitter Blackberry application better get on the horn and grab this latest update! Good stuff! Here’s the changelog:

* Map Provider - Allow users to select either MapQuest (default) or BlackBerry maps to display users locations. User action to retrieve a map You now have to click the ‘Retrieve Map’ button after opening a tweet in order for the map to be retrieved. This will result in substantially lower bandwidth requirements and improved battery life.
* UberChannel date display bug fix – Fixed a bug where tweets in UberChannel streams had the date incorrectly displayed.
* Resetting tweets to retrieve bug – Fixed bug where on an upgrade the number of tweets to retrieve would reset to 60.
* Highlight color in Midnight Theme bubble layout – The highlight color in the Midnight theme when using the bubble layout is now much easier to discern.
* Text Ad color – We changed the color of the text ads to conform to the them colors. The ads are still clearly marked as an advertisement.
* GPS Radio Activation – The GPS radio will now only be activated when you open the compose tweet screen IF you have selected to use the GPS radio to determine location. This should greatly reduce battery drain, but may result in the location mechanism falling back to the cell tower method on some occasions.

Please be sure to send feedback as you use this application as this leads to many bug fixes and improvements along the way. You can grab the download at their site and Blackberry 6 is supported. Woot! Click here to download UberTwitter to your Blackberry.

UberTwitter Updated to Beta-9 // v0.99

September 23, 2010 Leave a comment

The popular Twitter app for BlackBerry devices was updated yesterday to Beta-9 (aka v0.99) and it comes with a list of changes! Have you downloaded the newest version yet? Let us know what you think of it in the comments below:

Beta-9 release 1 is now available for download! The version number is 0.99. This release includes some new features, but more importantly includes a major bug-fix that we thought was important enough to warrant getting this to you sooner rather then later. Beta-9 can be downloaded here:http://www.ubertwitter.com/bb/download.php

Below is a list of the features and capabilities that are new to this release.

  • Bug Fix – Fixed a bug where the menu key would become unresponsive and occasionally the device would lock up. This same bug likely was causing excessive battery usage over time.
  • New Themes – You asked and we delivered two new themes! The Midnight theme which we think many of you will find extremely appealing, and the Über Classic theme which brings back many of the color choices of version 0.971 including the same solid colors for @replies and DMs
  • Filtered ÜberChannels – You loved ÜberChannels, but now we think you’ll love it even more! When you pull up the timeline for an ÜberChannel the tweets are now filtered so that you will only see on-topic tweets. Not seeing all of the extraneous tweets, especially on a mobile device, should make the ÜberChannel experience much better!
  • Brighter Themes – Listening to your feedback we have reworked the colors in all of the existing themes to make the brighter and more vibrant.
  • Notification Flowers – Everyone liked the uniqueness of the notification ‘flowers’ on the main icon when you had a new tweet/@reply or DM, we made them even better by including a red and white star in the middle to make them stand out.
  • TweetPhoto is now Plixi – We have converted it all over to use the new Plixi logo and wording.
  • Photo Upload Bug – Fixed a bug in photo uploads which could occur if you had multiple accounts configured on your device.
  • Highlight Bars – The highlight bar is now more appropriate for each theme, and we also made the highlight bar flow behind the tweets in the ‘bubble’ layout, like it did in previous versions.
  • Icon Notifications – Fixed bug where icon notifications were not cleared when ÜberTwitter stopped running.
  • Sound Notifications – Fixed bug where an @reply sound notification would not sound if there was also a regular tweet notification.
  • Hashtag Picker – You can now turn off the hashtag picker under ‘options’ from the menu.
  • Late @replies – Fixed bug where if you received an @reply and saw the notification on the uber bar and then went to your @replies, you couldn’t find any new ones there.
  • Native 6.0 Build – There is now a native build for BlackBerry OS version 6.0
  • Photo/Video Picker – We now use the native Photo/Video file picker on BlackBerry OS version 6.0.

Twitter Clients For Blackberry – Finally Some Quality Options

August 31, 2010 Leave a comment

Hey folks…just thought I’d throw out the fact that I’m pretty darn happy with the choices of Twitter clients for Blackberry owners out there. SocialScope just dropped version .129 in our laps (unless you’ve not received an invite) with features full Facebook integration. UberTwiter is another great, full-featured Twitter app for Blackberry which I use and the developers are super-quick to address problems and push updates out to the masses. The native Twitter for Blackberry (T4BB) is also a great choice. Even Seesmic for Blackberry has stepped up their game to push out a new update to address bug fixes and it does refresh faster and provide a more pleasant user interface. Tweetissimo for Blackberry from The Blackberry Zone and BritishTurbo (Twitter username) goes without saying. Push notifications have been a godsend for me. It’s great to see mentions and direct messages pushed directly to your Blackberry device for quick retrieval and response.

I know a lot of you are eagerly awaiting the upcoming Blackberry Twitter client, Blaq. I have a serious jonesin’ going on for this product. I guess patience is a virtue, eh? You can obtain an overview of this full-featured app here.

So, which of these (or any other) is your “go-to” Twitter client for your Blackberry? Do you run more than 1 of the apps at one time on your Blackberry? I know I do! Give us a shoutout in the comments on which of these you use, your fav or favs and your views on the recent improvements and/or introductions of these apps.

Variety is the spice of life, right?

Thanks

HootSuite For Blackberry – A Quick Peek

August 28, 2010 Leave a comment

The cool cats over at Crackberry posted an article on the development of Hootsuite for Blackberry. Here’s what the folks over at HootSuite had to say:

Blackberry fans are adamantly vocal about their desire to Hoot from their beloved ‘berrys — and the wait is almost over! Soon fans everywhere will have a ‘berry-ready Owl with Facebook and Twitter in your hand — just don’t squish it!

To quench your desire, here are the first screenshots of HootSuite for Blackberry to share with your colleagues. The pilot batch of HootSuite for Blackberry beta users are testing the first iteration with more invites going out soon (we haven’t forgotten about the thousands of you who signed up to test already).

As you Blackberry fanatics already know…there are several high-quality Twitter clients available for your devices such as the native Twitter client, UberTwiter, SocialScope, Seesmic, Tweetissimo, etc. I’m very anxious to see what HootSuite brings to the table to separate itself from the pack. Quick note…also very excited to see what Blaq has in store for us as well.

You can sign up for beta testing at this link. Excited to see this Twitter client come out of the woodwork? Let us know in the comments.

Thanks…

Tony
